Herzog Implements Resource Commander

Herzog Companies, Inc. has selected ACS Connect™ to implement an equipment management solution for the company's mobile equipment inventory.

Herzog recently launched an initiative to track location and utilization metrics for their mobile equipment using GlobalTRACS® wireless devices from QUALCOMM® Incorporated.  ACS Connect will use Resource Commander™ to first collect and then process equipment data before feeding that information directly into Herzog's back office systems. 

Founded in 1969, Herzog Companies is a diversified provider of railroad and rail transit construction and operation, rail flaw detection, highway and airport construction, aggregate material production, contract operation of sanitary landfills and resource recovery projects.

The key factor in Herzog's growth and stability has been a young, aggressive management team that has grown up in the industry and applies a cost effective and timely approach to the completion of each project.

The GlobalTRACS system uses a small ruggedized dual mode wireless transceiver with GPS functionality to communicate equipment usage and location data to Herzog servers. Usage information is then processed and job costed within Resource Commander. The software integrates directly with the Computer Guidance Corporation (CGC) accounting system used by Herzog. Once processed and approved, Resource Commander feeds a complete data set to CGC’s equipment costing and job costing modules. In addition to processing and integration, Resource Commander will provide detailed reporting and analysis.

Resource Commander provides the final piece of an larger solution for Herzog, the combined capabilities of which will solve several business challenges. The current manual process of simply tracking equipment location and utilization will become highly automated, yielding dramatic increases in efficiency and accuracy. The resulting data will then allow Herzog to enforce job costing rules related to equipment rental. On the operational side of the business, equipment deployment can be better planned and managed to ensure maximum uptime and utilization.

Herzog management anticipates that the company's ability to plan and track more precisely and allocate equipment quickly will offer significant competitive advantages for years to come.
