Resource Commander Tracks Employee Time and Attendance With Biometric Time Clocks

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – BRANDON, FL – Hand readers, which recognize hand size and shape without being as invasive as fingerprint readers, can take the place of ID card readers and eliminate buddy punching. Resource Commander, a tool for collecting information from the field and feeding it directly into back office systems, now has the capability to automate time entries using biometric time clocks in the form of hand readers. Ingersoll Rand Recognition Systems HandPunch® hand readers are simple and effective in recording clock in/out times of employees, and offer complete privacy.

Attendance records are comprised of in and out timestamps, which are used to calculate total time. So how does the hand reader work? The employee enters a personal identification number on the HandPunch keypad and then places his hand on the reader. In less than a second, the HandPunch reads the size and shape of the employee’s hand to confirm the person’s identity. No cards or other identification are needed. Each time the employee attempts to clock in or out, the hand reader verifies that the newly scanned hand image matches the template originally stored for that employee ID number. If there is a match, the punch is recorded and the scanner produces an output--it may transmit data to a computer, or simply log the person's arrival or departure time.

Hand geometry scanners take numerous measurements of the length, width, thickness, and surface area of the hand and four fingers. The scanner does not record or give regard to surface details such as fingerprints, lines, scars, blemishes, and dirt; it also disregards fingernails, which may change from day to day. HandPunch® also incorporates an advanced antimicrobial technology to reduce the spread of micro-organisms, providing a hygienic finish that resists bacterial degradation.

The Ingersoll Rand HandPunch® offers a reliable alternative to other time clocks. ID cards can be lost, forgotten, damaged or stolen, or even passed to a coworker for buddy punching; ethernet time clocks are likewise susceptible to buddy punching. Hand readers, however, give a high level of security to both employees and employers.
