To Resource Commander, equipment is simply another type of resource. The system was developed especially to track resources for which costs are distributed at a detailed level. For this reason, the equipment being tracked is often high-value resources. Examples include mobile heavy equipment, semi-stationary machinery or fabrication machines. Any equipment for which costing is a concern can be tracked, regardless of size and mobility.

Managed Equipment Entry
This is the most straightforward, but least automated, method of generating time records for a resource. Equipment resources are added to a Resource Group managed by a particular person. This method is similar to the way a Foreman would manage a crew. The user manually completes what is essentially a digital timesheet. The information entered includes the time spent, details such as job and cost code and any applicable notes. Resources can be managed individually or as groups. This type of entry can be performed in an online or offline environment.

TimeClock Adaptor
Equipment resources can be clocked on and off of assignments in the same way as employees using the TimeClock Adaptor for Resource Commander. Because the TimeClock is only available in online environments, events are visible in real time, allowing current assignments to be viewed for a particular resource. This method automatically calculates time based upon events, allowing time to be tracked more precisely than with manual entry.

GlobalTRACS®
This adaptor retrieves GPS location and utilization wirelessly from mobile equipment using the GlobalTRACS system from QUALCOMM®, Inc. The system calculates time based upon utilization data. Using landmarks or a “digital fence”, equipment resources can be automatically costed to a Job from a back office system that matches its GPS coordinates. Fully distributed records are then queued in Resource Commander for approval and upload to the back office system. This method offers the highest level of automation for equipment tracking.
